Frequently asked questions
What makes EMDR coaching different from other coaching?
A lot of coaching focuses on mindset and strategy. That can be really helpful, but it often misses what’s happening underneath.
When your body tenses up as you go to speak up, hit publish, or say yes to a date, no amount of planning or positive thinking will talk it down. You can’t outthink a body that doesn’t feel safe.
That’s why my approach goes deeper. Using EMDR-informed coaching and nervous system tools, we work with the protective pattern at the root, right where it shows up in your body. So instead of bracing your way through the moments that matter, you start showing up as the calm, grounded version of yourself you know is in there.
What is EMDR?
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It was developed in the late 1980s and is now one of the most researched approaches for helping people move past difficult experiences. EMDR uses bilateral stimulation, like back-and-forth eye movements, tapping, or sounds, to help your brain process memories that still feel charged. As that charge comes down, old reactions loosen their grip and you can respond in the present with more ease.
What’s the difference between EMDR coaching and EMDR therapy?
EMDR therapy is a clinical treatment for trauma and mental health conditions. It often looks back at many experiences and can be used to treat symptoms by clearing those past memories.
EMDR-informed coaching uses some of the same tools, like bilateral stimulation, but we point them at one specific thing: the pattern that shows up when you go after something you want. My approach combines intuitive coaching, nervous system tools, and EMDR-informed work, so we spend a little time on what’s underneath the pattern and a lot of time on where you’re headed.
Using a technique called future templating, we rehearse moments, like a pitch, a date, or a big conversation, so your nervous system can start to do them while you feel calmer and more like yourself. This work is action oriented, so you can go DO the thing.
Can I do EMDR coaching while I’m in therapy?
Yes, and lots of my clients do. Therapy can hold the bigger picture while our coaching focuses on one pattern and helping you take action. I just recommend letting your therapist know we’re working together.
If I experience anxiety in my daily life, can coaching still be a fit?
I often tell people it’s super, super normal to feel some anxiety around the things they want to work on in coaching. That’s usually exactly why they’re here! Coaching is a great fit if you function well most days but notice certain moments bring up anxiety and hold you back. I would refer you to a therapist if you had anxiety that felt debilitating and required a diagnosis.
Is EMDR coaching safe?
Yes. You’re in charge of the pace the whole time, and we can slow down or pause whenever you need to. As a licensed therapist, I know when something calls for therapy instead of coaching, and I’ll let you know if I think that’s the case.
Do you take insurance? Can my employer pay for coaching?
Insurance doesn’t cover coaching, so I don’t bill insurance. Many companies do offer professional development or coaching budgets, though, and this work often fits there, so it’s worth asking your manager or HR. I also offer monthly payment plans and hold a few sliding scale spots each year.
Is EMDR coaching virtual? Can I work with you from anywhere?
Yes! All my sessions are online, so I work with women across the US and around the world. All you need is a private space and a good internet connection.
How many EMDR coaching sessions will I need?
My Expansion Edge™ Coaching program is 12 private sessions over 4 months: three 60-minute sessions each month, plus a week off for integration. This offers the time and space to go deep and create lasting change in your nervous system. We’ll talk about what makes sense for you on our connection call.
Do you offer standalone coaching sessions?
Yes, I offer standalone Let’s Talk It Through sessions that can give you a feel of the work, my energy, and how we work together before committing to a longer program.
Is there an inkling of something you’ve been wanting to do? Perhaps you want to speak up at work, share something you’ve created, have an honest conversation, or take a step toward something new.
We’ll talk through any overthinking, second-guessing, or holding back that may be coming up, and explore what could help you feel more able to take your next step!
For deeper work on the protective patterns that keep showing up at your Expansion Edge™, I offer my 4-month program and intensives, because lasting change happens with time and practice. I’m happy to talk about which fits best during a connection call!
What happens on a connection call?
It’s a free 30-minute call to see if we’re a good fit. I’d love to hear about the thing you’ve been wanting to do, what’s been getting in the way, and what you’ve already tried. No need to prepare anything; I look forward to meeting you!
I’d love to hear what’s on your mind.
